Urgent: Another China Migraine

An FDA Warning Sticker on the side of a China Prescription for Business might include, “For Best Results, Don’t Expect It Overnight.” Thirty years in trade has taught an important lesson. Something flagged urgent is practically a guarantee to be one’s next migraine.

It is astounding how many such urgent tags are attached to our daily deluge of email. Chinese economic growth rate is at a staggering ten percent per year. Occidental thought so ingrained with instant everything interprets this speed as something to demand when an order is placed. Normally we are told, “We need it yesterday.”

Born and bred in the West as an immediate gratification junkie, to have it your way in a nanosecond, is something I easily subscribe to. My Chinese wife often accuses that I suffer from a lack of patience. Not a good testimonial to offer sage advice on success with it in China.

Worse, weeks have passed between my first and second blog. That might suggest that I’ve also succumbed to the proliferation of production delays common within The Great Wall. Don’t worry. Our company email is actually responded to with great sense of urgency. Production orders get fired off immediately.

Cyber Import deals with over a thousand factories. From our view, the biggest hurdle and common denominator for problems is an inefficient timeframe assigned to product development. Importers will suggest that the biggest snag is the failure of Chinese factories to simply make what they order as expected. How to contradict those “Extra ketchup, hold the pickles, we’re in a hurry” cultures?

The good news is that with time, most factories can actually be developed to deliver what you want, when you need it. It is difficult to suggest to importers that China is an opportunity to practice the Zen Art of Patience. Those who have this ability to embrace the East will have strong business relationships forged and a profitable future.

All your urgent email is of course most welcome. We’ll get right on it. Business success and health includes China factories in the prescription. Just don’t ignore that Warning Sticker if you are prone to migraines.
